Contributions
The main role of a Retail Specialist is to simply assist customers with any help, questions, or concerns they may be facing with their devices. However, from a standard retail point of view, it seems to be pretty straightforward, but Apple has truly mastered the idea of the retail experience for their customers. The main role of a Specialist lies under the transaction, cash counting, or guiding them to the correct walls, but it is tailoring the right product for the customer, allowing them to be suited with the right product based on their everyday needs.
Although customers may know which product they want before even walking into the store, sometimes they may pass by a product that ideally suits their needs more than they thought. This common trend may be found present when discussing the Mac products, where some customers may get a computer that is oversupplying their need or even undersupplying. That is when the true value of a Specialist comes present as we are not enforced to simply sell the highest price tag for extra cash but to tailor a product that a customer will be satisfied with but also confident enough to sustain their tasks.
An Apple Store also carries other tasks that are crucial to keep a store functioning smoothly, that can be unseen from a customer’s perspective. A very underappreciated role that is crucial in the retail experience is the Setup section of the store. While the title is straightforward, as they are the people who help set up your new product and are available to ask any questions regarding the product, they are the stepping stone for customers who may be getting their first Apple product. Although everyone may not have the same enthusiasm towards an Apple Product, to some, they are being exposed to a perfected ecosystem of simplicity and seamless design.
Additional Information
The Mall of Millenia Apple Store, located in Orlando, FL, is a flagship store carrying millions of customers annually. However, while the high number of customers is impressive, the unique character of the Mall of Millenia Apple Store is that nearly 80% of customers are international. Although this is a unique experience for a retail worker, it does present a handful of obstacles when helping each customer. The most expected one being the language barrier, which sometimes confuses my recommendation across to the customer or a lack of storytelling to properly tailor the right product to them in a timely manner. However, the beauty of the Mall of Millenia Apple Store is that leadership and management have planned for scenarios like this, which is having employees with a wide range of backgrounds being able to support each customer’s background effectively.
Sometimes, not every customer can be suited with an employee with the same background, which leads to using alternative methods of conversing with the most common one using the translate app within our POS devices. A very straightforward method that allows every transaction to be personable and honest but still engaging. There are also premade screens and pages around our store that explain certain services like AppleCare in a handful of languages that require more in-depth explanations for customers, ensuring a point does not go missed.
