Contributions
During my time as an active brother in Theta Tau, I have primarily been involved with the Professional Development and Community Service Boards. Participating in these two boards has shown me the importance of leadership and what it means to represent an organization I am deeply committed to. The Professional Development Board offers feedback to the chapter, organizes events and workshops, and conducts mock interviews for potential new members. Meanwhile, the Community Service Board plans service events around the city and creates engaging opportunities to encourage chapter members to participate in community service.
During my time on the Professional Development Board, I had the opportunity to serve as Board Lead. Our focus was to host interactive events that were both informative and motivating for active brothers to participate in. Over time, we shifted our objective toward offering more technical skill-building opportunities, moving away from repetitive feedback. Some of our most successful events, which saw strong attendance, included a hands-on soldering workshop, a CAD walkthrough demonstration, and a team-based Jeopardy night. That semester was one of the most successful for the Professional Development Board in terms of average attendance per event.
After a productive experience on the Professional Development Board, I chose to pursue a role with the Community Service Board. This decision was both professional and personal, as I sought new exposure while dedicating more time to participating in service events. The Community Service Board at Theta Tau offers a more relaxed environment, with one of its main responsibilities being to identify events that engage as many members as possible. While uncertainty about attendance sometimes caused stress, some of our most successful events included food packaging, volunteering at a dog shelter, and street cleaning. Fortunately, the Theta Tau: Rho Gamma Chapter has been growing rapidly each semester, leading to increased productivity across all boards.
Conclusion
Theta Tau specializes in developing key leadership skills in individuals and provides members with opportunities to demonstrate those abilities through various roles. During my time on the Professional Development and Community Service Board, I had the opportunity to practice and showcase my leadership and teamwork skills while going through various situations and challenges. However, despite the challenges, Theta Tau provides a strong sense of stability and an undeniably supportive team to work with. These roles helped me understand the value of a strong team and the key elements involved in building one.
